Happy New Year !! Green Monday: It Is The Wrap Up Time Now

Firstly, I would like to wish you all happy new Sarvadhaari Samvatsara (Shaka) (new Year in Hindu calender) that has begun today.  Happy Ugadi Festivities.

The markets ended higher in green Monday on strong Asian cues with strong buying seen in front line stocks. Technology, telecom, FMCG, banking, oil, realty and pharma stocks were among the top gainers. All banking, metal and capital goods stocks led the rally, a key index gained more than 2.50 percent with a strong cues from Asian peers, the equity market here started the day with a positive trend and continued the gain today.

ICICI Bank, Wipro, SBI were among the top gainers up over 5.5% each. Bharti Airtel, Suzlon, ITC, Wipro, Ranbaxy, Satyam and Tata Communication were other gainers on the bourses while Maruti, BHEL and ABB were top losers.

Sensex closed up 413.96 points or 2.70% at 15757.08, and the Nifty up 114.20 points or 2.46% at 4761.20.

On BSE, the market breadth was positive with modest mood. About 1574 shares have advanced, 1116 shares declined, and 381 shares are unchanged.

The Bombay Stock exchange’s (BSE) Sensex, opened at 15,390.15 points and notched a high of 15,851.88 before closing at 15,757.08 points. It went up by 413.96 points at the day’s close or 2.70 percent.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) S&P Nifty, which opened at 4,631.35 points, closed at 4,761.20 points, after touching the day’s high of 4,798.55 points. It went up by 114.20 points or 2.46 percent.

Midcaps and small cap indices were relative under performers but manged to close in green. Capital goods were under lot of pressure and continued to under perform in today’s session.

The BSE Midcap index, which closed at 6,344.72 points, went up by 81.87 points or 1.31 percent.
The BSE Smallcap index, which closed at 7,777.94 points, went up by 62.95 points or 0.82 percent.

The top gainers of the day were ICICI Bank at Rs.809.30, up by 5.97 percent, Ranbaxy Labs at Rs.483.85, gaining 5.59 percent and Jaiprakash Associate at Rs.231.95 that surged 4.84 percent.

The top losers included Ambuja Cements at Rs.118.10, down by 0.84 percent, Maruti Suzuki at Rs.785.70, losing 0.73 percent and Reliance Energy at Rs.1,162.90 sliding by 0.30 percent.
